Terms of Service
The agreement between you and Chekkd. Plain enough to actually read.
Last updated: July 6, 2026
1. Acceptance of terms
By creating an account and using Chekkd ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use our Service.
2. Use of service
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and to keep your credentials confidential. You must not:
- Use the Service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose.
- Attempt to interfere with or disrupt the Service.
- Provide false or misleading information during verification.
- Share your account credentials with others.
- Use automated systems to access the Service.
3. Identity and Bank verification
Chekkd uses Plaid Identity Verification for government-ID and liveness checks. Plaid's notices and privacy terms apply to Plaid's processing. Chekkd uses the limited results and identity fields described in our Privacy Policy to operate your verification record. You agree to provide accurate information and not to attempt verification for another person without authorization.
If you choose Level 4 — Bank, Plaid Link connects an eligible financial account so Chekkd can confirm account control and connection health. Chekkd does not provide payments or use that connection to initiate transfers or withdrawals. Plaid's service availability, terms, and privacy practices also apply.
4. TrustBadge & Trust Level
Customer Verification levels reflect completed Email, Identity, Social, and Bank proof. A TrustBadge indicates completion of the required verification levels; it is not based on bank transactions or bank statements.
Verification levels and a TrustBadge are informational signals, not guarantees of identity beyond the checks performed, trustworthiness, solvency, creditworthiness, available funds, eligibility, future conduct, or the outcome of an interaction. Third parties remain responsible for their decisions.
5. Data usage
We collect and process information as described in our Privacy Policy and the notices shown for particular verification features. Accepting these Terms forms the service agreement; it does not replace a separate notice or choice where applicable law or a provider flow requires one.
6. Account termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, engage in fraud, provide false verification information, abuse the Service, or break applicable laws.
You may delete your account at any time in settings. Upon deletion, your public trust level and TrustBadge are no longer accessible to third parties.
7. Marketplace integration
Chekkd supports verification before peer-to-peer interactions across marketplaces, dating, hiring, payments, rentals, and other contexts. Chekkd is not a payment service, employer, landlord, lender, insurer, or consumer-reporting agency and does not make payment, employment, housing, credit, insurance, or other eligibility decisions. When you share a Passport or enable a public profile, you direct Chekkd to display the verification and profile fields available on that surface. Private identity records, provider payloads, bank details, and internal scores are not part of the customer-facing proof.
8. Limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for damages arising from use of the Service, including:
- Loss of data or access to your account.
- Decisions made by third parties based on your trust level or TrustBadge.
- Errors or inaccuracies in trust-level calculation.
- Service interruptions or downtime.
- Security breaches despite our best efforts.
- Outcomes of peer-to-peer transactions.
9. Intellectual property
All content, trademarks, and intellectual property related to the Service, including the Chekkd name, TrustBadge design, and platform technology, are owned by Chekkd or our licensors. You may not copy, modify, or distribute our content without permission.
10. Dispute resolution
Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved through binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association. You waive your right to participate in class-action lawsuits.
11. Changes to terms
We may update these Terms at any time and will notify you of significant changes by email or in-app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions.
